Botanical skin context

Pomegranate (Punica granatum)

Ingredient detail

Ingredient context

Pomegranate's contribution is more about protecting existing collagen than building it fresh. Its polyphenols and ellagitannins, punicalagin in particular, have shown collagenase-inhibitory activity in fibroblast studies. This means they may slow the enzymatic breakdown of collagen rather than only stimulating new synthesis.

Evidence context

In-vivo studies of fermented Pomegranate extract found measurable improvements in skin moisture, brightness, elasticity and collagen density after eight weeks of oral use. Pomegranate extract has separately demonstrated tyrosinase-inhibiting activity of its own, giving it a secondary, complementary role alongside Licorice in supporting a more even-looking tone.
